melisalbertoAuthor: Melis Alberto

Where I live: I was born and still live in Cagliari, Sardinia, a beautiful seaside town where the air is swept clean by the mistral winds.

The kind of books I write: to date, I have published about thirty books for children and teens, from novels to essays to collections of fables, some traditional, some not. The works that matter most to me are socio-historical adventure novels, like those based on the Shoah, the Porrajmos (the Romani Holocaust), the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and child soldiering.

Languages my books have been translated into: my books have been published in Spain, France, Portugal, Greece, Germany, Poland, Israel, Belgium, Brasil, South Korea and Russia.

Awards: I have won various awards, including Il Battello a Vapore (after the children’s imprint of leading Italian publishing house Piemme). I have been shortlisted twice for the Hans Christian Andersen Award as best Italian author.

My favourite foreign children’s writers: Jerry Spinelli, Roald Dahl, Anne Fine, Roddy Doyle, Bernard Friot
