Cognolato Luca

cognolatoAuthor: Cognolato Luca

Where I live: I was born more or less at the head of the bridge leading to Venice from the mainland, and I’ve never strayed far from the city’s bell towers.

The kind of books I write: I started with books for children who are just learning to read, and I grew up along with my stories, reaching adolescence and nearly adulthood. I don’t have a specific genre, as I enjoy experimenting with different things: mysteries, espionage, sci-fi, psychological, true stories or fantasy... they only need to entertain me as much as the reader.

Languages my books have been translated into: Hungarian, Chinese, Turkish, Serb, Portuguese.

Awards and prizes: selected for the White Ravens catalogue in 2014, for a novel co-written with Silvia del Francia, based on the true story of an Italian man, Giorgio Perlasca, who by posing as a diplomat managed to save thousands of Hungarian Jews from deportation to Nazi death camps during World War II.

My favourite foreign children's writers: Philip Reeve, Neil Gaiman, Shaun Tan, Chris Priestley.
