Salvi Manuela

Where I live: Ancient romans used to spend their summer holiday in Formia, my home-town, since it is on the coast, not so far from Rome and Naples. Cicero was stabbed to death here and you can visit his tomb, as well as the magnificent Tiberio’s villa. We have sea, sun and camorra (a kind of mafia).

The kind of books I write: I’m quite subversive but also funny. I’ve published books for all age groups but my favourite theme is “the right to be different”. I despise gender stereotypes and I all I want when I write is to wreck them.

Languages my books have been translated into: French, Spanish, German, Greek.

Awards and Prizes: I was in the White Ravens international selection in 2005, with a picture book about homosexuality.

My favourite foreign children’s writers: Jerry Spinelli, Marie-Aude Murail, Melvin Burgess, Quentin Blake.
